QUEZON, Bukidnon — Members of the Sunnyday United Farmers Association received a backyard hog-raising project through the PAMANA livelihood program in Sitio Sunnyday, Barangay Butong, Quezon, Bukidnon.
The project was formally turned over to the association through the joint efforts of the local government, Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), veterinary personnel, the Philippine Army’s 89th Infantry Battalion and community representatives. It is intended to provide the farmers with an additional livelihood and strengthen the association’s capacity to manage an income-generating project.
Ruel Illustresimo, president of the Sunnyday United Farmers Association, represented the group during the turnover together with its members who will manage the project. The Municipal Veterinary Office also provided technical support for the backyard hog-raising activity.
The project forms part of efforts to strengthen livelihood opportunities in Sitio Sunnyday, which the source identifies as a community previously exposed to communist armed-group influence and mobilization. The livelihood intervention was presented as a way to encourage greater self-reliance and participation in development programs.
With the turnover completed, the farmers’ association will take on the management of the hog-raising project and work to develop it as an additional source of income for its members and their families.
