MAKILALA, Cotabato — Members and officers of the Makilala Integrated Peace Advocates Farmers Association (MIPAFA), an organization composed of peace advocates and former conflict-affected community members, participated in a Financial Literacy Orientation as part of preparations for the launch of their Rice Retail and Grocery Project scheduled this July.
Held at the LGU Makilala Conference Room, the training equipped participants with practical knowledge on financial management, bookkeeping, capital preservation, business planning, and responsible management of income and expenses.
The orientation was facilitated by Ms. Grace Cagang, Field Officer of the PAMANA Program, a government initiative that supports peacebuilding and sustainable development in conflict-affected communities.
Participants were reminded that transparency, accountability, and collective responsibility are essential to ensuring the success and long-term sustainability of community enterprises. Organizers said the Rice and Grocery Project is expected to provide an additional source of livelihood and strengthen the economic resilience of MIPAFA members and their families.
The activity forms part of a broader effort to prepare the organization for the project’s opening, including the completion of documentary requirements, capacity-building seminars, and store preparations.
MIPAFA leaders expressed their appreciation to the PAMANA Program for its continued assistance in helping former rebels and peace advocates transition toward productive and sustainable livelihoods.
The initiative highlights how government peace and development programs are empowering former conflict-affected communities through entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and community-based economic opportunities. By equipping beneficiaries with the skills needed to manage resources responsibly, programs such as PAMANA contribute not only to livelihood generation but also to lasting peace and stability at the grassroots level.
As the project moves closer to its official opening, MIPAFA members remain optimistic that the enterprise will become a model of self-reliance, cooperation, and inclusive development in Makilala.
